 Speed up Start Menu in Windows XP


Speed up the Start Menu:
Method 1 :
The default Start Menu speed is very slow, you can change the registry to get better overall performance.
Follow the given steps to change the speed of Start Menu.
First Click Start Button >  Click Run.
Go to Run box and type regedit hit Enter Key.
Then locate the following key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\MenuShowDelay

 
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\MenuShowDelay


Select the MenuShowDelay the default value for "MenuShowDelay=400"
Double click the MenuShowDelay Change it to a lower value, such as 0,  


Set it to the value data from 400 to 0.

Close the Registry Editor, and restart your computer before the changes that you make affect.
That's all.

Method 2 :
You could also try this method to speed up the Start Menu performance.

Click Start Button > Settings > Control Panel

 
Click Display Properties then Switch to the “Appearance” tab then click Effects 

 

Uncheck the “Use the following transition effect for menus and tool tip” check box and Uncheck “Show shadows under menus” check box.

That's all.
