A break-through in Surround Sound that was once made for video by Divx/Xvid
Aud-X is the name of a completely new surround sound encoder and decoder created by group of audio enthusiasts and professionals joined with love to the Cinema.

For a long time people converted DVDs to Divx/Xvid with mp3 stereo sound. We have all felt that part of the original masterpiece was gone forever (the surround sound).


The main Aud-X project task was to bring to people an easy technology for encoding Divx/Xvid movies with 5.1 sound the same way they used to do it with the simple mp3 stereo encoders. Since Aud-X 5.1 sounds great at 128 kbps and is compatible with AVI you can re-encode DVDs the same way you are used to, but with full surround sound.



In fact Aud-X 5.1 is a whole set of software tools compatible with Windows system aiming at 5.1 compression for movies and music. It allows for very effective and easy encoding of surround (5.1) sound that is compatible with the AVI file container. In addition, the decoder is based on DirectShow interface, thus may be used in any Windows system media player supporting DirectShow filters. 



The great feature is backwards mp3 compatibility for devices not supporting Aud-X format and real-time AC3 transcoding within the DirectShow filter for external home theatre systems.

 Yahoo! LAUNCHcast - Watch Music Videos Online

One of the coolest website that I’ve discovered would have to be one called ‘LaunchCast’ which has been bought to us by Yahoo, powered by CBS Radio – seemingly, out of nowhere came this excellent website which allows you to favorite Yahoo! and CBS Radio stations pick from hundreds of music videos, MP3’s and artist interviews no matter where you are all completely free of charge and for a change this is accessible completely legally.

As I really don’t know where to start with this website, we are looking at the music videos section which immediately presents you with a long list of artists or you can search and quickly find the artist you’re looking for. Once you’ve found you’re desired artist, the site is a list of music videos that it has in its comprehensive database for you to view at completely free of charge. To fully take advantage of this area of the site it would be advisable to have broadband connection installed as on such as each video takes around 4 seconds to load up then plays at high quality and completely stammer free until the end; something you can not be achieved with a 56k modem.

This is all very fine if you know that you want to watch and have nothing else to do than sit down and watch a music video but what if your concentration is needed for something else and you just would like a bit of background music? This is where the LaunchCast online radio station comes in – You simply decide what kind of music you like listening to and Yahoo customizes a station specifically for you which then sits in the background playing away while you continue working.


By specifying musical genres that appeal to you, the station can be sure that you are not up to 30 minutes worth of Gareth Gates “Spirit in the Sky’ per day that a certain local station would impose on you. I think we all know what station I'm talking about.

On the whole, the songs are fresh, varied and the interruptions for ads are few and far between and even at this point in writing the article I’ve already heard three songs that I’ve never heard before and that were absolutely fantastic – It really is a great way to discover new music. If a track does come on that I really can’t stand then just click on ‘next’ and the station will skip it and to avoid having to do this too often you will be asked to rate each track accordingly so that the radio station can get a feel for what music you like and what doesn’t.


Other areas of the site include the artist information page where you can check out news, photos and interviews as well as downloading selections of their music on to your hard disk for future listening when you’re disconnected from the Internet. Launch not supports only established artists but also does its bit for supporting emerging artists by another to offer every month on the website so that you can view their music videos, listen to their singles and having a look into where they’ve come from and what has influenced their entry in to the music business all from the one side.


Finally, it is very unusual that I am so impressed by a site so if you do one thing today, make that you check out Launch specially if you have a broadband connection. Although areas of the site would work well on a standard internet connection, I think that waiting for everything to loads up would become a slightly boring process. Much in the same way that the quality of Sky has pushed the majority of the people towards getting digital TV, if demanding content like this keeps appearing on the Internet then it’s only a matter of time before most people are pushed towards installing Broadband in their homes for fear of being left behind.

 MP3Gain - Super MP3 Volume Normalizer

MP3Gain is small open source software designed especially adjust and normalize the volume of mp3 files, it allows you to analyzes and normalizes the volume of your tracks without losing quality. MP3Gain is also very useful for music lovers who burning a bunch of MP3 files on CD.

MP3Gain analyzes MP3 files so that they have adjusts the same volume it some statistical analysis to decide how loud the file actually sounds to the human ear. Which most people downloaded songs from CD’s and downloaded from countless online stores. You can set your playlist and listen to a song but the first volume of the next is either too low or too high... it breaks your surroundings! The MP3 Gain helps you get an even level for the mp3 tracks on an album or collection. Also, the changes MP3Gain makes are completely lossless. It does this by adding the appropriate metadata for each file to know the music software and portable players know what the volume should be. Fortunately, it makes no changes to the actual music contained in each MP3, so there is no loss of sound quality.


After the installation of MP3Gain, click the Add Folder button and select the folder with your music. The software can analyze every single track in the library or to analyze by album.


The latter method will keep the volume consistent with each album, but if you often shuffle-play your entire music library, do not be surprised when the volume spikes or even lowering of one track to another. This is largely a matter of personal taste, but we observe no disadvantage to the track-analysis method.

By default, MP3Gain strives for a volume of 89 decibels, but you can change this value in the Target "Normal" Volume box to change. (We use 90 to 95, especially because we like nice round numbers) then click the Track Analysis button and be prepared to wait: The process takes time.When that's done, you can check the results or go ahead and start the leveling by Track Gain. This will take even longer than the analysis-possibly hours, depending on the size of your library.

Interestingly, iTunes users can change the sound check option in the settings tab, playback, to achieve the same goal.
